The famous sculptor Ousmane Sow passed on, on Thursday, December 1st in Dakar in his 81st year.

There is no need to introduce Ousmane Sow . Kinésithérapist by profession, he is the first one to exercise this job in Senegal before going into sculpture at 50 years. Each of his works are all equally quite popular. In 1999, his exhibition on “le Pont des arts de Printemps” was admired by over 3 million visitors.

In 2013, he was the first black artist to make it to the Academy of Arts. He will be the second African to be a member of the Académie française after his fellow countryman Poet-president Léopold Sédar Senghor.

The self-taught and sculptor artist, is besides Commander of the Legion of Honor, Commander of the Fine arts and Letters and Commander of the national order of the Lion in Senegal.

Over the last 6 months, he was repeatedly hospitalized before dying finally on Thursday, December 1st, 2016.
